Environment and culture in the plans of CampaniaSep 03
The new Tourism Councillor of Campania, Giuseppe De Mita, plans to invest in three assets: the environment, culture and heritage, while less space will be dedicated to big events. "According to a study by Unioncamere", explained the Councillor "only 2.8 percent of tourists come to Campania for big events". The study outlines the dynamics of flows in Campania: from 2001 up until now overnights have remained constant and there was an approximately 10% decrease only during the waste crisis. Campania is not moving backwards but it is not growing like the other regions. This is why De Mita is convinced he needs to develop the sectors that provide added value: "38.4 percent of tourists, according to the study, come to Campania for its natural beauties, 4 percent for its artistic heritage while 2.8 percent for amusement and big events. I therefore am thinking about supporting more dynamic sectors or those that provide added value, like wellness".
